Thats right! there will be jobs galore begging soon for drivers, warehouse staff etc. As Tesco , the U.K biggest retailer, has announced plans to open in the U.S.
Who the hell is Tesco I hear you ask?
Well, they are a £450billion turnover company(we calculate billions differently too!)
So, get ready boys and girls.....cos nice easy jobs with good steady pay are heading to a supermarket near You!

Oh, forgot to mention....
On the downside, Tesco are hell bent on world domination and squeeze the ****e out of local sub-contract haulage companies,farmers,shop-fitters,electricians,plumbers,small retailers,toy manufacturers,electrical goods manufacturers etc etc etc.
So, eventually, your either with them(at a fee they dictate) or against them...
R.I.P Walmart! You heard it here first....
And they like to influence politicians too, allegedly, although I didnt say it first, only passing on what I,ve heard.....No lawsuits here please....

Any company that uses the same tactics as Walmart (eg. TESCO if what was reported was true) can't be any better than Walmart.

Tesco now have 62% of U.K food retail and Walmart have 28%... :shock: ..
Yeah, spoilt for choice over here...

I lived in England (Northamptonshire) for 2 years and "commuted" back to Boston every month for corporate meetings (1999 and 2000).

Tesco was an OK grocery store, but definitely not the caliber of a US superstore, like Target or Wal*Mart The selections were modest, and the prices were high.

I ended up acting as a "mule" and smuggled USA products into England for my family. Stuff like Marshmallow Fluff and Grape Jelly just did not exist over there. One thing that looked odd, but made sense was the cashiers all sat down while they scanned your purchases.

I don't think Wal*Mart has anything to worry about. Tesco management will have a hard time adapting to the US expectations.

Seriously? It's concord grapes processed into a thick but spreadable jelly. No seeds, for most brands.

their orange marmalade is our grape jelly :wink:

the pic colin posted is off colour wot, think deep dark purple like the jar, and sweet. it's great spread over peanut butter as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or spread on toast in the morning. all the sugar in it will slap your tongue and then put you right to sleep a couple hours later.

and yes i know, what a waste of the grape. it would be better put to use making a bad wine than a good jelly. :P

then again tesco might go the way of carrefour when they tried to invade :P :wink: :shock:

LOL... I will have to tell the MRS that Tescos bread can be had soon. I love their thick crust bread. It makes the best toast, and it is not stoggy.

True story: While I was on the "IG" team in the Air Force and stationed in Germany, we had to make a trip to England to inspect an Air Force base (RAF Mildenhall). While other spouses with stuffing their duffle bags full of Hummels (expensive nic nacs), Beer and Jewelry. I dedicated 3/4 of my duffle bag to TESCOs bread. Then we froze it enjoyed it for several weeks. I am easily pleased.
