there is nothing in the FMSCA regs prohibiting it. But, do you know the pertanent gun laws in all 48 states? DO you know the legal and correct way to carry a firearm in all 48 states? Do you know all of the municipal ordinances regarding firearms that supercede state law? If not, leave the gun at home.

If you knew the rules, you'd know how hard living with them can be. As one example, do you know the laws for Chicago? If you take a firearm into Chicago, you are breaking the law. concealed, exposed, locked in a case... doesn't matter, in Chicago firearms are illegal, end of story. So how does one legally carry a weapon into places where you cannot legally carry a weapon? But, if you really want to know the laws regarding this, check out the NRA's web site, they have a pretty comprehensive list of laws by state and municipality.

GOODIE2SHOES - By "concealed weapon" do you mean a firearm, or a tire thumper hidden on your person. As far as Chicago, do they mean a pistol or a long arm? BOL

In Chicago they mean ALL firearms. Toughest gun law in the country. How they enforce it, I have no idea, but I understand the penalties are heavy if you get caught. Funny thing though, that law doesn't seem to have reduced there crime rate one bit. Funny thing about criminals, they don't follow laws.

Your right I trap shoot and there are states it takes alot to get a gun into. And it is a 12 gauge shot gun and to go to the grand to shoot we would need tons of permits.

If you were not a driver would you take a gun to a "normal job" with you? Im not sure why people feel the need to carry a gun on the truck with them

Well as a matter of fact I do keep mine in the trunk once in awhile if I'm gonna shoot with in the next day or so LOL. But no normally you wouldn't keep a gun around if going to work. GOOD POINT.

Exactly....although I do have a concealed carry permit. I am not allowed to bring it to work. Corporate doesnt allow any firearms on property. Im not going to risk my job for that. But it does become a pain when I want to go shoot after work being that the gun club is right near work and I have to go all the way home after work to get my guns.

Yea you don't. But trucking isn't a normal job. Trucking may sometimes require you to park over night in a area you don't know it's safe or not. IMO, some of the gun regulations sucks. The criminal's don't obey by the law, which gives them the upper hand. These days and times, it's not safe out their. I do have a question on this subject, how often does the cab of your truck get searched? I drove for 2 years back in 85 and never had the truck searched. I kept a gun then, hidden inside the cab of the truck, never got caught. Never had any problems either. Really never needed it. I'm thinking about going back on the road next year. And was planning to bring a small caliber gun. Since 9/11, has things changed? Are you subjected to get your cab searched? If your not allowed to carry a gun, can you carry something like mace, or pepper spray, or even a stun gun or taser?

All I can tell you is it is a felony to cross the state line in which the gun is registered in. That law is most likely due to drug running, but is still applicable in trucking. Before anyone asks I dont know what you do with a gun when you are moving. As far as stun guns and tasers go, that probably more regulated by state laws rather than a universal federal law.
