    Default car insurance gimmicks

What?s your favorite car insurance gimmick? The talking gecko? The gruff cowboy? What makes you feel the most automotive safety?

I like the new one from Mercury (www.mercurytheory.com). If you haven?t seen it they are making the claim that the owners of Mercury are from Mercury and they?ve got all the corroborative evidence including a 10X magnification of burnt toast (check out the slides) that proves everything. Makes me chuckle.

How about the gecko's "co-workers"... The squirrels running the gauntlet crossing the road in traffic?
    Destroy the cities...
    and they will rebuild them.
    Destroy the farms...
and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.

Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...
and grass will grow in the executive offices.

    The bill has come due.

I dig the gecko, but the cavemen commercials rule.

caveman 1: "I'll have the roast duck with the mango salsa."

caveman 2: "I don't have much of an appetite, thank you."

I giggle everytime I see it.

    Caveman sound guy.

    Caveman has been offended.

    Cavemen in a restaurant.

    The newest caveman advert.

Colin, my wife and I laugh every time we see that commercial. It is by far, one of the funniest. Their offended expressions are absolutely priceless! LOL!

I meant to add above, when I called Geico for a quote, they told me to stick with State Farm. Geico was hundreds of dollars (per year) higher.

I like the Geico ad with the cavemen, too, but I think my favorite is the Mercury one where the "UFO expert" is convinced that he's found evidence in the backwoods of some hick state, and he meets said hick and the guy shows him the "alien" and the ufo expert is like "That's an armadillo".

Is it just me, or do the rest of you notice that when fuel prices go up, ALL INSURANCES go up. But when fuel prices go down, the insurance rates don't? There's even a rather large group of people in FL that have gone to the State House to protest "INSURANCE GOUGING". Homeowners can't afford the home owners insurance anymore. Virtually all insurance rates have been climbing much faster than the cost of living. I wonder why?????

I bet it's a self-propagating habit. Like, when they raise the rates, people stop buying insurance, and their customer base gets smaller. So they need to raise the rates again to keep up, and it causes the same thing, fewer customers. Which is probably why they spend so much money on advertising, I mean, I started this thread cuz I see more auto insurance ads than any other kind (though I do see a fair number of homeowners ads too).

I just totally gave into the gimmick and spend a while trying to figure out what the audio files say on the Mercury site. Couldn't make them all out. something about "so ??? broke up with me, and she said that her parents would never let her marry somebody from another planet. ???? I mean, you?re pretty ???? ??????? 7 noses ?????? ??? what do 7 noses have to do with auto insurance? I love gimmicks.

I hate gimmicks. Some of the Geico ads are humerous from time to time, but I'm not going to base my decision on ads. I went with Texas Farm Bureau since they offer what I need at the best price. I don't think I've ever seen a Farm Bureau ad.
