On the edge of sleep, I heard voices behind the door
The known and the nameless, familiar and faceless
My angels and my demons at war'
At war...
'Which one will lose depends on what I choose
Or maybe which voice I ignore...'
Wilderness of mirrors
Streets of cold desire
My precious sense of honor
Just a shield of rusty wire
I hold against the chaos
And the cross of holy fire
Wilderness of mirrors
So easy to deceive
My precious sense of rightness
Is sometimes so naive
So that which I imagine
Is that which I believe

I'm with Golf on this one; I do not believe that The Big Bang Theory is at odds with the existance of a Higher Power.
I'm also with Useless and Golf on the Big Bang and God being totally compatible (hmm add Golf and Useless together and it defines my current take on the game as well...) "A good walk spoiled" that I will probably re-take up when I can no longer cycle and play tennis.

IMHO, those who believe that The Big Bang Theory is a contradiction to their religious beliefs are in for a very rude awakening!!....Kind of like Mormons wrestling with the different sciences and evidences that dispell, contradict, or refute their teachings, and the troubles they are having dealing with those contradictions today.
As a Non-Christian, I do not see where The Big Bang Theory is incompatable with the existance of a Higher Power, or for that matter, the creation of life.
As someone who has studied Human Anatomy & Physiology in great detail, and taught it as well, I find it inconceivable to believe that we are the results of statistical flukes, nor I do not believe that we are the result of events that happened by chance. The statistical odds of life developing as it has, and the homeostatic balances within the human body, and nature itself, being the result of chance or happenstance seem much more remote to me than the existance of some Divine Forces ordaining these evolutions. Furthermore, I simply can not accept the notion that The Universe has unfolded by chance or happenstance, either.
Personally, I believe that the Big Bang Theory will be confirmed, but that many things that we did not know will be revealed, and some theories that we may have believed will be proven inaccurate to some degree, or disproven.
That is going to leave many Christian Fundamentalists having to defend their faith against science, which will, in the end only serve to alienate them from people who dare to persue the truth.
HAH...great twist on my moniker there Useless... :P
All I'll say is that you are going to enjoy reading that book. It will be thought provoking.
I read another book you might read after the first...It was written by the head of the Human Genome Project....Dr Francis Collins. It's called "The Language of God".
After those two you probably will be ready for a Jimmy Buffet brain candy book...![]()
Cool!! 8) I'm a big Jimmy Buffet fan as well!! 8)Originally Posted by geomon

You look at it differently then I do. I look at it as there were millions of different creatures that we could've evolved into. We just happened to be humans. We're nothing special whatsoever, we just have higher intelligence, and an inverted thumb, BFD.Originally Posted by Useless

Nothing special whatsoever?? Upon what foundation of knowledge do you base that premise??
Have you studied Human Anatomy and Physiology in any depth?? Neurology?? The Science of DNA?? Molecular DNA?? Osteology??
Or, how about Chemestry?? Organic Chemestry?? Astronomy?? Geology?? Palaentology?? Anthropology?? Oceanography?? Marine Biology??
What pathroads of logic and reason have you established to arrive at your conclusions??
Now, I suppose that one can reasonably argue that any one of these sciences alone could be the result of satatistical flukes, or anecdotal evolutionary processes.
But Holistically and Empirically??
When you begin considering the ways in which these sciences mesh and affect the other sciences, then in my mind, it takes a greater "leap of faith", if you will, to believe that it all happened by happenstance, and there was not some Higher Power that ordained them.
Perhaps it was the working of the subconscious mind!! I WAS in fact, thinking about the science of Molecular DNA when I replied to you.......interesting!!Originally Posted by geomon
The truth is, I AM severely dyslexic. I had gone back, spotted my error, and was going to change it, but you had already spotted it and replied, so, I thought, "Too late now"!!
